At age 4

We offer 120 reception places a year in our Pre-Prep, or Lower School (ages 4-8):  80 at our Ramsden road site and 40 at our Garrad’s road site.

Details of the entry procedure can be found below:

1.    Check to see whether you live within our catchment

We want Broomwood Lower School to remain a local school for local children so we ask that parents live within an approximate mile’s radius of the school.

For our Ramsden road site this covers the immediate area around the site and extends to Wandsworth Town, Clapham Old Town and Clapham Junction but not North of the River, Putney, or Battersea Park.

For our Garrad’s Road site this covers Tooting, Streatham, Balham and extends to parts of Dulwich and West Norwood.

2a.    Visit the schools & Registration (This can be done in any order)

Families must attend an open day before being eligible for a place. We strongly advise seeing not only the Pre-Prep site that is closest to where you live, but also either Broomwood Hall Upper School (girls 8-13) and/or Northcote Lodge (boys 8-13), as this gives you the opportunity to see the whole school experience on offer for your child from 4-13.  We have open days twice a year and private tours may also be taken by arrangement with the Registrar.

If you like what you see, please register your interest by completing the Broomwood Hall registration form and returning it to the Admissions office together with a non-refundable £100 registration fee.  If you are registering a second or subsequent child, please complete the sibling registration form and return it with a non-refundable fee of £50 per child.

3.    Offers of places
From September 2019 (both Garrad’s road and Ramsden Road sites), entry for Reception classes (‘Preps’) will change to a random ballot.

     i)    Priority entrance
Registered siblings of former, current and future pupils (where a place has been accepted and not cancelled), will be offered places 18 months prior to entry – i.e. April of    the calendar year before September entry. Registered children of Alumni and current members of staff will also be given priority entrance.

     ii)    Non-priority entrance
All other registered children will be placed into four quarterly blocks according to their date of birth and gender and names drawn by random ballot from each block ensuring roughly equal numbers of boys and girls and a good spread of birthdays throughout the year.  The number of places available will be dependent on the number of children in that block with priority offers. All offers to non-priority children will be drawn from each block in early April and offer letters will be sent to parents at the start of the summer term in the year prior to entry.

4.    Acceptance of places
Offers will be secured on receipt of a £2750 acceptance deposit.  This is refunded at the end of a child’s last term at the school subject to the correct notice having been given.  If a previously accepted place is cancelled before entry, the deposit will be retained by the school.  Please see the Terms and Conditions for full details.

5.    Waiting list
All children who do not receive an offer in the ballot will be placed on a waiting list.  Offers will then be made if and when original offers are declined.  The aim remains to ensure an equal number of boys and girls and a good spread of birthdays.
