With expert help from garden designer, Mrs Fiona Budden (mother of Scarlett and Kiki), the children at Garrad's Road are becoming farmers by growing their own organic food. Four new vegetable patches have been dug and planted with seedlings from Rocket Garden and should be ready for harvesting before the end of term. The crops include trees bearing plums, apples and pears plus peas, beans, varieties of lettuce, carrots, onions, tomatoes and much more!
All the classes will help tend the crops and we look forward to tasting our first organic produce soon.
Rocket Gardens are the UK's only grower and supplier of instant organic kitchen gardens and have launched a new campaign called, 'Digging for the Future', to encourage children across the country to grow their own vegetables. The campaign was inspired by the WWII 'Dig for Victory' where the whole country were encourage to grow vegetables at home. The school is also registered for the National Year of Food and Farming and Garrads Road will appear on their farming map.
