On Wednesday 21 February, Broomwood Hall hosted the annual debate with Northcote Lodge.
The motion this year was; ‘The house believes that we should stop worrying about the environment.’
The debate started promptly and the hall was packed with boys, girls and plenty of parents. There was certainly an exciting atmosphere.
Harry Winther was the first speaker proposing the motion and his speech was confidently delivered. The sunglasses were an added bonus! Joshua Clarke followed on from him and made some thoughtful points opposing the motion. The Class 6 girls were next to take the spot-light and both Leonora Tyler and Victoire Tardy-Joubert, presented their points, for and against, passionately. Willam Colahen and Patrick Baigarie continued to persuade the house, before Polly Hughes and Anna Green made the final thought-provoking speeches.
The debate was then opened up to the floor and there was an opportunity for other people to share their opinions freely. The final vote was then taken and those in favor of the motion won! It was an enjoyable evening and the speakers were fantastic.
